Jillian and Kay met one another at a Romance Writers of America Conference in Los Angeles in 1998. Until they began comparing notes, they didn't know they had led parallel lives. They were both born in Surrey, England, Jillian in Walton-on-Thames. Kay in Reigate. They moved to Canada with their parents when they were in their teens. Jillian's husband, Jim came from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Kay's husband, Bob came from Thunder Bay, Ontario. When Jillian moved to Thunder Bay from Winnipeg after her marriage, she worked at The News Chronicle for Jack Muir in the Advertising Department. While in Thunder Bay, Kay worked at The News Chronicle in Port Arthur and was forced to turn down a job to work for Jack Muir, the Advertising Manager because she was moving to Vancouver. They have also both lived in Winnipeg and Vancouver.

And they both became romance novelists, which led to their meeting. Jillian wrote romances for Silhouette, Berkley Jove, Simon & Schuster and Avalon before she heard of Scarlet Robinson. Kay wrote many books for Harlequin Mills & Boon before contracting her first book with Scarlet. Jillian had never met Kay but she purchased and read Kay's first Scarlet book, Marry Me Stranger before she submitted her first proposal to Scarlet. Jillian's book The Marriage Dance was published in 1998.

Unfortunately, the Scarlet line is no more, but they are still writing and publishing romances and keeping in touch with one another.
